Places to Eat

Firstly be warned that many of our cafes/restaurants open for the main part of the

year but several close during the winter months of June/July/August for periods and

also open only on reduced days of the week during the shoulder periods of Spring

and Autumn.

At Hot Water Beach there are 2 cafes, one is open every day from 9am but normally

opens on Friday nights only when they have an open microphone for singers and

musicians. During summer this café will occasionally open on some other nights.

The other café situated on the edge of the main carpark is seasonal and closed during the

winter months but when open is staffed every day and some early evenings to coincide

with the low tides on the beach. Situated in the camping ground is a take-away caravan

open for the majority of the year for a two hour period in the late afternoon/early evening.

At Hahei, there is a daytime opening café and a restaurant that is open most evenings

and a brewery which includes both a bar and cafe. A takeaway bar operates at the general store during peak periods and there is also an ice cream parlour that opens during the summer and holiday periods.

Cooks Beach has a restaurant open most days of the week and a take away bar that opens

on weekends most of the year and other nights during the summer and holiday periods.

Flaxmill Bay has a restaurant open for lunches and dinners most days of the week during

the warmest nine months of the year.

Ferry Landing has a restaurant that opens for lunches and dinners during the summer

months and holiday weekends.

Whenuakite has a brewery/café situated in the camping ground that operates certain days

of the week. There is also a café on the main highway near Whenuakite that is open most

days of the year.

Coroglen has a tavern that is open every day and also supplies meals. On many summer

nights there are bands performing at this establishment.

Whitianga has a number of restaurants, many of which are ethnic, and also quite a few

takeaway bars, a hotel that serves meals and drinks, and several cafes.

Tairua has several restaurants and cafes as well as two takeaway bars.
