Experience our natural hot pools, local art, wellness and activities.
All year round natural hot pools right on the beach makes this an experience not to be missed.
Undoubtably one of New Zealand’s most unique natural hot pools, visitors can dig their own pool in the sand as geothermally heated water flows to the surface. With stunning views of Castle Island and pōhutukawa‑framed cliffs—makes Hot Water Beach the perfect place to stay, eat, relax and soak in nature.
Best times to visit: 2 hours either side of high tide.
Spades: Can easily be hired, just look out for any "spade for hire" sign.
Safety: Strong currents and rips are present in the ocean. If swimming in the ocean, always swim between the Surf Lifeguard Service flags. If in doubt, don't go out.
Respect: Ngāti Hei and the local community protect this taonga. The hot pools are located near an Urupa and Pa site. Please use toilets provided and don't eat or drink in the hot pools.
